Stephen Allen is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath. His research interests cover energy engineering and the use of inter-disciplinary technology assessment (including thermodynamic analysis and life cycle assessment) to inform designers and policy makers.
Stephen is deputy leader of the UKERC Industry Theme, and co-investigator on the £36m Active Building Centre and €7m European “Circular Biobased Construction Industry”. His research draws on professional experience from both policy and industrial environments. During 2010-12 he worked as the Scientific Adviser on Energy at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology in Westminster, informing and influencing energy and climate policy. In 2012-18 he was a senior consultant and then director of energy and environmental practices.
His publications have been used to influence policy and practice in industry, and his awards include the IMechE George Stephenson Prize in 2008 for best original paper.
