Her administrative responsibilities include leading the Department of Plant Sciences, routinely voted #1 in the world, and where plants for energy are a key part of her research interest. She is currently a PI in the DOE funded ‘Center for Bioenergy Innovation”, valued at $25 M per year, as one of four DOE centers in the US dedicated to developing sustainable biofuels for a future bioeconomy. She remains engaged with the UK Energy Research Centre, through the ADVENT project where her research focusses on the challenges of sustainable energy and food production and adaptation of biological systems to the changing climate. She is currently working with the NEV model developed at the University of Exeter to identify bioenergy decarbonization pathways that deliver for both industry and the environment in the Humber region and in south Wales.
