Looking Forward to our Inclusive Writers’ Retreat

06 Oct 2022

We are looking forward to hosting our first writing retreat. This will provide academics from across the energy research space the opportunity to join us in an inclusive space to focus on their academic writing.

The brainchild of our EDI Champion Heather Baxter (Theme 3: Plymouth Marine Laboratory), the retreat has proven to be very popular, attracting 64 applicants representing many different career stages, from 33 institutions across the UK. The agenda will consist of a mix of group sessions, networking activities and writing time. As well as providing time and space to write, researchers will give and receive feedback on work, gain new perspectives and receive advice on career advancement. They will also be able to network in-person, which is something that has been lacking during the last couple of years.

From the 64 applicants, 20 have been randomly selected and will gather at the Forest of Arden outside Birmingham to write, network, and take part in workshops on the 22-23 November 2022.

‘This is such an important opportunity for anyone who finds it difficult to set aside time for writing. Employing an inclusive approach that caters for researchers with caring responsibilities and focusing on accessibility has received much praise and the interest generated for the event is very encouraging’. Kajsa-Stina Longuere (UKERC Operations Manager)

This is the first writing retreat that we have arranged, but given the interest, we are planning on hosting a similar event next year.
