UKERC Researchers Respond to ‘Clean Power by 2030: A fair deal for Scotland?’ Inquiry

21 May 2026

The Scottish Affairs Committee has published its report, with recommendations to the government on the topic of Clean Power 2030 and creating a fair deal for Scotland. The investigation gathered a combination of written and oral evidence to inform the report.

Scotland is at the forefront of The Government’s “mission” to deliver a clean power system by 2030, with over 1,000 new renewable energy projects in the planning pipeline at an estimated capacity of 83 gigawatts. The mission marks a significant acceleration of the UK’s energy transition away from fossil fuels. The report examines whether the Clean Power 2030 is achievable, the role of Great British Energy in the plan, the impact of planned grid upgrades, as well as the impact on communities and the role of community ownership.

UKERC’s Christian Calvillo gave oral evidence to the Committee on 4 February 2026. This informed a number of references to UKERC’s research in the final report. UKERC research on delinking gas and electricity prices and curtailment costs was referenced throughout the report.
