Rising Block Tariffs: A Progressive Social Tariff or Heavily Damaging to Vulnerable Consumers?

Dr Christian Calvillo Munoz, UKERC Researcher and Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, is among the prestigious list of new members appointed to the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Young Academy of Scotland (YAS).
Established by the RSE in 2011, the Academy brings together leaders from business, academia, education and other professions from across Scotland for the public benefit. Members are selected for both their professional achievements and their commitment to public engagement and cross-sector collaboration.
Christian Calvillo is a part of UKERC’s Affordability, Justice and Economic Impacts Theme, recently publishing work on Rising Block Tariffs.
On the appointment, Christian said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Young Academy of Scotland. Building an equitable and sustainable energy transition raises questions that span several intersecting disciplines, so being part of a network with such different backgrounds and sectors is a really valuable opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing how those wider perspectives can shape and strengthen my own research.”
In total, 48 new members joined YAS this year, drawn from business, the public sector, the charity sector, the arts, and research and academia.
