Flexible Fund: first call

19 May 2020

We are issuing our  first Call for Proposals under our Flexible Fund

The total value of the Flexible Fund allocated to new research is approximately £3m (valued at 80% FEC). We will issue Calls for Proposals in 2020 and 2021. We would expect individual research projects to run from between one and two years, or exceptionally up to 3 years. All Research Fund projects must be completed by the end of UKERC Phase 4 on 30th April 2024.

We anticipate that approximately £1 million will be distributed under the first call for proposals. Our intention is to distribute the available funding for this call between the three broad topics. However, subject to peer review, we do not guarantee to fund a project under each topic.

Call for Expressions of Interest

In this first call we are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from universities or other institutions eligible to hold UKRI awards in the following topic areas:

  • Governing the transition: governance and energy vector change
  • Finance: the impact of policy on investments at different scales
  • Cooling the transition: clean cooling and energy integration

Expressions of Interest should be submitted by 5pm on 22nd June 2020. The deadline for full applications will be the 30th September 2020. EOIs will be reviewed by the UKERC Research Committee. Full applications will be subject to full peer review. UKERC does not guarantee to fund a project under each topic. Decisions will depend on the outcome of the peer-review process.

Projects should start by January 2021 and are expected to last between one and two years, or exceptionally up to a maximum of three years. The supported research will form an integral part of UKERC’s research programme.
