Scottish Parliament launches Area of Research Interest on industrial decarbonisation

25 Sep 2025

The Scottish Parliament has launched a new Area of Research Interest (ARIs) focusing on industrial decarbonisation.

Given the significant role that electrification of industry and industrial processes is expected to play, they are particularly keen to hear from:

  • Experts with insights associated with the electrification of industry and industrial processes

Parliament would also welcome hearing from academics with expertise on the following aspects of industrial decarbonisation:

  • The application of hydrogen and/or bioenergy to reduce industrial emissions,
  • The application of carbon capture and storage at industrial sites,
  • Approaches to decarbonise the Grangemouth industrial cluster.

Responses will be used to identify research, expertise and contacts to support parliamentary scrutiny of this element of the forthcoming draft Climate Change Plan (CCP).  The Scottish Parliament invites academics at all career stages and from all research institutions to register their expertise using this short online form.  The responses received will be reviewed by 14th November 2025 and then the Scottish Parliament will decide whether to close this ARI or keep it open beyond this point.
