William Blyth has over 25 years’ experience in energy economics and policy, with a focus on transitions to a low carbon economy and energy access in developed and developing countries.
He is a Principal Research Fellow in the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London. In this role, he is also part of the UK Energy Research Centre, and focuses on future electricity markets designed for zero-carbon electricity.
He is the Director of Oxford Energy Associates, an independent energy research consultancy established in 2004, advising business, government and academic clients.
Until Dec 2025, William was part-time Senior Research Fellow for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office where he helped launch the COP26 Green Grids Initiative and the Climate Compatible Growth programme which support investment in sustainable energy and transport systems to meet development priorities in the Global South. Prior to this he has been an Associate Fellow at Chatham House, and worked at the IEA.
He has a DPhil in Physics from Oxford University.
