Dr. Shahab Dehghan is a Senior Lecturer in Power and Energy Systems at Newcastle University. His research centres on enhancing the sustainability, reliability, resiliency, and cost-effectiveness of future energy networks under static and dynamic techno-economic constraints.

This involves the development of data-driven and AI-based tools and models for investment and operation planning in multi-vector net-zero emission integrated energy systems, electricity transmission and distribution networks, and microgrids. Specifically, his work focuses on integrating renewable resources, electric vehicles, storage systems, power-to-hydrogen, and hydrogen-to-power technologies as sources of flexibility.

His research includes the development of practical software packages featuring state-of-the-art algorithms for modelling and analysing power and energy systems. Notably, he was involved in creating the open-source Python-based Energy Planning (PyEPLAN) model and the Whole-Electricity System Investment Model (WeSIM).
