Robert Gross is the Director of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), and Professor of Energy Policy and Technology at Imperial College London. He has been Director of UKERC since 2020 and a Co-Director since 2005.
Rob has wide ranging experience in advisory roles across UK government departments and agencies, Parliament, and industry. Current roles include Advisory Commissioner for the DESNZ Clean Power Unit, NESO Markets Advisory Council, Ofgem Academic Advisory Panel and National Grid Distribution Independent Stakeholder Group.
Rob was closely involved in the UK Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), and a member of the REMA Strategic Advisory Group from 2023-25. He was a member of the National Infrastructure Committee Distribution Network Study Advisory Panel 2024-25. He has acted as Specialist Advisor to Parliamentary Committee enquiries into energy issues and was a member of the Commission for Energy in an Independent Scotland. He has experience working within government, as well as leading numerous reports and working groups for government departments and bodies such as the Climate Change Committee. He has contributed to the work of international agencies including World Bank, UNDP and IEA.
Rob is a Fellow and former Council Member of the Energy Institute, and is a Council Member and former Chair at the British Institute for Energy Economics. He has published extensively on energy markets, technology and policy. He has extensive experience in broadcast, print and online media.
