This Meeting Report summarises a workshop held in September 2006 at Somerville College, Oxford, which explored the role of carbon capture and storage in a new Europe and was organised by UKERC in association with the British Geological Society. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together key individuals from the Central and Eastern European countries with leading figures from the UK energy research community, government and specialist agencies.

The objectives of this workshop were to facilitate discussion, debate and information-sharing on the potential role that clean coal technologies, in particular Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) could play in developing a secure and sustainable European energy system. The workshop also sought to identify potential challenges in implementing CCS and how it could fit in with other low carbon, clean energy sources, while formulating recommendations for stimulating future opportunities in CCS in Central and Eastern Europe Countries.
