The main aim of this project is to explore how UK energy security might be affected by future developments in the energy system. This is using scenarios for the UK energy system that are being developed and analysed in collaboration with the UKERC Resources and Vectors programme.  The scenarios combine qualitative storylines of future developments with quantitative modeling.

Since energy security is a multi-dimensional concept, a ‘dashboard’ of quantitative and qualitative indicators is being used to assess energy security. The quantitative component of the security analysis combines the UK TIMES model developed by UCL with electricity and gas system models developed at Imperial and Cardiff.

In addition to assessing how UK energy security could change under a number of possible scenarios, the project is also exploring how a more Europe-wide approach to electricity security could affect trade offs between costs and benefits.
