The launch event for this year’s review was held at the St David’s Hotel, Cardiff Bay. The event gathered energy researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders for thought-provoking discussions, engaging presentations, and networking opportunities.
This first session includes introductions from Professor Nick Pidgeon of Cardiff University, as well as UKERC Director, Prof Rob Gross. This was followed by a keynote speech from Ed Sheriff, Deputy Director of Energy, Welsh Government. The main panel session featured presentations on the Review of Energy Policy 2024 from Prof Peter Taylor, UKERC, University of Leeds, Prof Meysam Qadrdan, UKERC, Cardiff University, and Dr Jess Britton, Edinburgh University, before a Q&A discussion with the audience in Cardiff.
Following the launch of the Review, we took a deep dive into the future of Wales’ energy transition, discussing devolved powers’ roles in net zero policy, the country’s industrial legacy, and its unique challenges in the country.
