Professor Jianzhong Wu will become the University of Bath’s new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) from 14 September 2026. Jianzhong will play a key role in delivering the university’s strategy as a member of the University’s Executive Board. He will be responsible for developing and implementing the University’s Strategic Plan for Research, working alongside colleagues in its Faculties, School, Institutes, professional services teams and the research community across their organisation.
Jianzhong currently sits on the UKERC Management Board, leading Theme 2: Operating a Highly Renewable and Largely Electrified Energy System. Professor Wu will continue his work with UKERC in his new role, having been a part of the Centre since the start of Phase 4 in 2020.

Alongside his work at UKERC, Jianzhong is a member of the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero Taxonomy Energy Working Group as well as serving on a number of major national independent advisory groups and councils. He also works with the EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub and the EPSRC Hydrogen Integration for Accelerated Energy Transition Hub.
