A new European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) programme on energy security and resilience has been announced.

The new EERA transversal Joint Programme on Energy Security and Resilience (tJP-ESR) builds on the work carried out by EERA’s Working Group on Resilience and Preparedness in 2025, which explored the growing importance of resilience and preparedness in Europe’s energy transition. This work resulted in the publication of the position paper “Resilience and Preparedness in Europe’s Energy Transition: the role of low-carbon energy R&I” and highlighted the need for a dedicated cross-cutting research platform within EERA.

UKERC represents the UK within the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), facilitating collaboration on clean energy technology on the continental level. Earlier in 2026, we hosted the first ‘EERA Day in the UK’, attended by EERA President Henk-Jan Vink. The event focused on strengthening ties between the UK energy research community and EERA.

Call for applications for governance positions

The webinar also marked the official launch of the call for applications for the governance positions of the new tJP-ESR. The call is open from 18 June 2026 until 14 August 2026 (EOB).

The following positions are open to candidates from EERA Full Members:

• One Joint Programme Coordinator (JPC)
• One Vice-JPC (optional)
• Three Sub-Programme Coordinators (SPCs), one for each Sub-Programme
• Vice-SPCs (optional)

Selection process

The selection process will follow the timeline below:

• 18 June – 14 August 2026: Call for applications open.
• 17 August – 14 September 2026: Applicants will be invited to a short hearing before the Steering Committee to support their application on the basis of the criteria set out in the Internal Rules of Procedure (IRoPs). For transversal Joint Programmes, the Steering Committee is composed of the EERA President, Vice-Presidents and Secretary General.
• 15 September 2026: Results of the selection process announced and effective launch of the tJP.
