ELUM Data on Bioenergy Crops and Carbon Now Available in the Energy Data Centre
The Ecosystem Land Use Modelling and Soil Carbon Flux Trial (ELUM) measured greenhouse gas and soil carbon changes arising as a result of direct land-use change to bioenergy crops. 70 UK field sites were visited on a one-off basis to give high spatial resolution soil carbon data. 4 network field sites spread across the UK were visited routinely and were instrumented to give high-resolution temporal greenhouse gases (GHG) data. The project aims were to provide greater understanding on the greenhouse gas (GHG) and soil carbon changes arising as a result of direct land-use change (dLUC) to bioenergy crops, with a primary focus on the second-generation bioenergy crops Miscanthus, short rotation coppice (SRC) willow and short rotation forestry (SRF).

The ELUM project was funded and commissioned by the Energy Technologies Institute (the ETI) and carried out by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), the University of Aberdeen, the University of Southampton, Forest Research, Aberystwyth University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of York.
