Director Rob Gross Appointed to Clean Power Advisory Commission

UKERC Director Professor Rob Gross has been to join the Clean Power Advisory Commission for the next three years, to help deliver the Clean Power 2030 mission.

Eight experts from across industry and academia have been appointed to form the Clean Power Advisory Commission and help to accelerate the government’s world leading target to deliver clean power by 2030.

The Clean Power 2030 Advisory Commission will support Chris Stark, Head of Mission Control, to deliver the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan. One will become the Flexibility Commissioner, meeting a government commitment in the Clean Flexibility Roadmap to establish stronger leadership structures for clean flexibility.

The full list of Commissioners includes:

  • Professor Robert Gross, Member of the Ofgem Academic Advisory Panel, the National Grid ESO Markets Advisory Council and the DESNZ Strategic Advisory Panel for REMA, who offers expertise in energy research.
  • Merlin Hyman, currently Chair of REGEN, a non-profit, charitable organisation that provides independent insight and advice to members ranging from large companies to community energy groups. Merlyn offers expertise in data and modelling, in flexibility and in community energy.
  • Cathy McClay as the Commissioner for Flexibility. Cathy is the Managing Director of the Distribution System Operator at National Grid Distribution, formally Commercial Director at NESO and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and offers extensive expertise in flexibility and markets.
  • Julia Pyke, currently Managing Director of Sizewell C NPP, who offers expertise in the management and build of large infrastructure projects and effective community engagement.
  • Alistair Phillips – Davies, who will shortly be standing down as the CEO of SSE, and who offers expertise in running a large energy company, of project development at scale and a whole systems view of the Clean Power Mission.
  • Nick Winser, Energy Commissioner at National Infrastructure Commission, Non-Executive Board member of Ofgem, and a previous Electricity Network Commissioner for DESNZ, who offers expertise in transmission and infrastructure.
  • Juliet Davenport, Commissioner of the Crown Estate and previous Professor Emeritus of the Energy Institute, who offers expertise in renewable energy and retail.
  • Craig Bennet, CEO of The Wildlife Trusts, as a climate and nature advocate.
