Call for Applications – Knowledge Brokerage Programme for Early- to Mid-Career Researchers

04 May 2023

The SSH CENTRE project is funding 30 PhD and Early to Mid Career Researchers working in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) to participate in an SSH knowledge brokerage initiative for policymaking on themes of climate, energy, and mobility. Each participant will receive €2,000 as an honorarium to participate in the entire programme (July 2023 to July 2024)

Who is eligible?

The Call is open to SSH researchers based at an institution within the EU or a Horizon-Associated country (including the UK), who have not previously been principal investigators on a grant of over €100,000.

What does the training involve?

Participants will complete an online training course in November 2023 to develop skills in knowledge brokerage between SSH research and policymaking communities. The training will include how to: co-produce evidence, integrate knowledge from different epistemic communities, and translate research for policy relevance.

The knowledge and skills developed through the training will then be applied in a group project with other PhD/Early-Mid Career researchers, working with one of six European cities. These group projects will develop initiatives to provide evidence-based policy advice related to mobility, energy or climate change. Participants will be funded to attend a 2-day workshop in their partner city.

The topics (and their respective cities) that research teams will develop and undertake a knowledge brokerage initiative are:

  • Local climate strategies (Frederikshavn, Denmark)
  • Resource efficiency/sufficiency and circular economy (Grenoble, France)
  • Energy Communities (Arnhem, The Netherlands)
  • Fossil-free heating and cooling (Rijeka, Croatia)
  • Mobility Communities (Porto, Portugal)
  • Digital mobility platforms (Čačak – Serbia)

Application deadline. Monday 3 July at 11:59 (CEST).
