Webinar: What does energy demand have to do with energy security?

19 May 2026. 10:30

Energy security is top of political agenda at the moment. This webinar will examine the role energy demand has to play.

Energy security is currently top of the political agenda but most solutions focus on securing increased energy supplies. This EDRC webinar, co-hosted by UK Energy Research Centre, will examine the often overlooked role of energy demand in supporting energy security.

Around the world, prices are rising for everything from petrol to food to consumer goods as we feel the effects of disruptions to oil and gas supply caused by the US/Israeli attack on Iran. In the EU, the Energy Commissioner has recommended that people drive and fly less, while governments across South East Asia have reduced working hours for public servants to conserve scarce fuel supplies.

This Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC) and UKERC webinar examines the impact of this war for energy security in the UK. We focus on the role of energy demand in supporting more secure and resilient communities and shaping geopolitics both now and in the long term. We discuss community and policy options for developing beneficial outcomes to make sure that the UK is less exposed to volatile geopolitical and climatic conditions moving forward.
