The Digital Inclusion Conference 2021: Making Digital Services Accessible for All

As a result of the pandemic, public sector services have increasingly been moved online. Digitalisation is often seen as a positive modernising and cost-saving process. However, disadvantaged members of the public who lack digital skills or have difficulties accessing digital platforms are at risk of being left behind. Going forward, service providers must evaluate their digital services and focus on digital inclusion initiatives that ensure all customers and service users are able to benefit from the digital world.

  • Between 2019 and 2020, 1.2 million people in the UK gained basic internet abilities
  • 7 million people in the UK do not have internet access at home
  • 22% of the UK’s population lack basic digital skills
  • 6 million workers have digital life skills but lack digital work skills
