Inclusive Energy Transitions: Transdisciplinary and Intersectional Approaches to Climate Justice

14 November 2025

14 November 2025, 10:00-12:00

This session will explore how transdisciplinary frameworks can address inequalities and advance climate justice through the development of an intersectional framework. It will focus on how researchers can apply intersectional methods in climate research and examine how the framework can be adapted to other sectors, research domains, and geographical contexts.

The session will include a case study from the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme which introduces a framework that was developed to assess and monitor gender equity and social inclusion in modern energy cooking services. Participants will gain insights into the framework’s development, application, and adaptability, supported by real-world case studies.

Workshop highlights:

  • Overview of climate justice and inequalities, and the role of research in enabling a just transition.
  • How transdisciplinary frameworks address sustainability challenges and climate change.
  • Developing and applying an intersectional framework, with insights from the Modern Energy Cooking Services case study.
  • Applying and adapting a framework to other sectors, research domains and geographies.
