Bioenergy communities across Europe are increasing in numbers, offering potentials for replacing fossil fuelled heat while opening the path for an ambtious, fair, and democratic energy transition. This workshop seeks to discuss the EU-level policy steps that are needed in order to support and promote energy communities. We will pay particular attention to the relationship between energy communities and energy poverty alleviation, as well as the various legal, technical, economic and regulatory challenges that they face in relation to EU policy. The workshop will feature speakers and stakeholders from think tanks, advocacy groups and the bioenergy sector itself, offering participants to hear the latest developments in policy and legislation, and provide input towards the development of a joint roadmap that will be presented to EU decision-makers.
This workshop is being organised under the auspices of the ambition of BECoop (2020-2023, https://www.becoop-project.eu), a project supported by the European Horizon 2020 programme, is to provide the necessary conditions, technical as well as business support tools, for unlocking the underlying market potential of community bioenergy, fostering new links and partnerships.
