Engagement Officer

The UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) carries out world-class inter-disciplinary research into sustainable future energy systems. UKERC brings together 20 academic partners across the UK, and its Head Quarters team is based at the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources.

About the role

The Engagement Officer will work with the UKERC Director and Co-Directors, UKERC Operations Manager and other Head Quarters team members to build links between UKERC, the broader academic community, industry, policy and non-profit organisations. A key role of the UKERC HQ is to maximise UK energy research capacity: promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, building career skills, and aiding cohesion. UKERC has undertaken to deliver a comprehensive programme of stakeholder engagement, including:

• Gathering extensive and detailed knowledge of the energy research programme across all research areas

• Building strong relationships across the UKRI energy programme including major research centres and hubs

• Providing a neutral forum that enables frank discussions and develops collaborations (e.g. through workshops on heat and annual research conferences)

• Build on an established role as a trusted provider of information and expertise to government and Research Councils

• Increasing connections and strong relationships with devolved governments, local authorities and other national and regional government stakeholders.

UKERC’s engagement strategy is to engage stakeholders in inclusive, interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral exchanges around net zero decision-making to maximise the impact of UK whole systems energy research. Building on the strategy and with the objective of encouraging increased collaboration, with more diverse representation, across the UK academic community, the engagement officer will review and implement the objectives for 2023 and 2024. They will also support the development of productive relationships with non-academic-stakeholders from the policy, industry and third sector communities. The primary activity will be working closely with these communities to identify opportunities for engagement that focus on specific projects, questions and/or interdisciplinary research challenges. This post is available immediately and is funded until 30 April 2024. A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page If you have any queries regarding the vacancy or the application process, please contact: bseer-recruitment@ucl.ac.uk.
