The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) is recruiting five members to a newly appointed Capacity Market Panel of Technical Experts (PTE), following the conclusion of the current Panel’s contracts in spring 2027.
The Capacity Market is the government’s main tool for securing electricity supply in Great Britain. The PTE is an independent advisory group that provides impartial technical scrutiny of the National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) modelling and its annual Electricity Capacity Report, informing government decisions on auction parameters and de-rating factors. The role is purely technical — it is not a forum for policy commentary.
Five specialist roles are available:
One member will be appointed as Chair. Members are expected to be drawn from academia and/or the energy sector, though any suitably qualified candidate may apply, subject to conflict-of-interest checks.
