Natural Environment Director

With a reach that can make London-wide impacts, the City of London Corporation aspires to build on our already impressive climate achievements and become a global leader in climate action and sustainability. The Corporation own and manage almost 11,000 acres of ancient and historic natural open spaces in and around London with some of the highest protections in place. Sites including Epping Forest, Hampstead Heath, West Ham Park, Highgate Woods, Coulsdon Common, Ashtead Common, Burnham Beeches and Stoke Common offer a wealth of resources for education, exploration and connection with the natural world. These outstanding environments also make a significant contribution to biodiversity, health and wellbeing and carbon sequestration. Run at no cost to the communities that they serve, they include 10 registered charities, funded principally by the City Corporation, together with donations, sponsorship, grants and trading income.

The role

Your expertise will ensure these historically and ecologically significant spaces are maintained for future generations. As the Natural Environment Director, you will establish and deliver a strategic vision and five-year plan to secure the future of our open spaces and the natural assets they protect, ensuring compliance with Charity Commission and Corporation regulations and guidance. A key component of the strategic vision and five-year plan will be the development of a sustainable funding model.
