Internship: Industry analysis at the International Energy Agency

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the OECD. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability.


The IEA is looking for two interns to work at its Paris office on analysis and modelling of industrial energy
demand, emissions, and novel technologies in the Sustainability, Technologies and Outlooks (STO) directorate.


The STO industry team contributes to a number of key IEA publications, including the Energy Technology
Perspectives series and the World Energy Outlook. Depending on the timing of the internship, interns often have opportunities to make substantive contributions to such publications. The selected candidate(s) will support will provide modelling, analytical, drafting and research support.

Main responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities may depend on the profile and experience of the selected candidate, as well as the priorities within the team. General responsibilities may include:

  • research and data collection on industrial projects, technologies, investments and policies
  • support upgrades to the IEA’s suite of in-depth models of the industry sector
  • topical literature reviews; techno-economic and/or policy analysis
  • draft content for internal notes, analyses, and external publications related to industry
  • participate in relevant internal and external events and meetings
  • contribute to the broader work of the IEA, as appropriate.

    Candidate Profile:
  • enrolled in a full-time graduate degree programme for the full duration of the internship
  • demonstrated capacity to work with large datasets and modelling tools, proven research skills, and
    analytical abilities
  • a good understanding of the energy sector, and experience with the industry sector (e.g. steel,
    cement, chemicals sectors)
  • excellent communication skills in English are a requirement
  • good organisational skills, such as the ability to work effectively and independently, prioritising tasks
    and working to tight deadlines
  • ability to work in a collaborative multicultural and team-oriented environment.


    Duration and work location:
  • Preferably 6 months, no less than 4 months, starting in October/November 2025
  • work location: in-person, Paris, France (remote working cannot be accommodated)
  • availability: full-time
  • the selected candidate will be provided with a monthly indemnity of approx. EUR 1000
