Impact and Engagement Project Officer – University of Birmingham

Position Details

The School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham is recruiting for a full-time Impact and Engagement Project Officer on fixed-term contract up to June 2028. Closing date: 6 January 2025.

Salary: £32,296 to £34,866 (Grade 6) with potential progression once in post to £39,105.

Role Summary

This role will support two programmes:

The Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC)

This is the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s flagship £15-million, 5-year investment in energy demand research led by Sussex and Birmingham Universities. EDRC has a key role in providing evidence on actionable solutions for energy demand reduction across different sectors. This is an interdisciplinary centre, covering expertise in technological, social, economic, business and policy aspects. Our team comprises of over 75 people from different academic backgrounds and disciplines, located across 14 different universities.

Clean Energy and Equitable Transportation Solutions (CLEETS)

Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and UKRI, CLEETS is a 5-year initiative to decarbonise road transport, bridging the West Midlands and South Wales in the UK, with the Great Lakes megaregion of the US. This will be achieved by bring together eminent climate, energy, data science, and transportation experts to advance interdisciplinary research and education and accelerate equitable use inspired decarbonized road transportation pathways by engaging government, private sector, industry, and end-user communities.

The role within EDRC requires significant experience of setting up and managing impact monitoring systems, engaging with and managing stakeholder relationships, supporting and running events (online, in-person and hybrid) and providing secretariat support for working groups. An interest in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and knowledge of, or interest in, energy demand will be an advantage. You will spend 80% of your time on this project.

The role within CLEETS will include financial administration, providing secretariat support, organisation of meetings and events, and managing key stakeholder relationships. You will spend 20% of your time on this project.

The role will be managed by EDRC’s Impact and Engagement Manager and based at the University of Birmingham.
