Dr Richard Carmichael is Research Associate within the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London, and Co-Leader of the Behaviour change in Energy and Environment Policy (‘BEEP’) Research Network. His work focuses on public engagement, behaviour change and policy for sustainable lifestyles and system change. Specific interests include energy consumer engagement with flexibility-enabling technologies and services, diet and ICT. He has 13 years’ experience in research and consultancy, including work for Ofgem, BEIS and Defra. In 2018/19 was seconded to the Climate Change Committee where he also authored the high-impact independent report ‘Behaviour change, public engagement and Net Zero’. He is currently exploring opportunities for data and digital tools to help deliver net zero and is project advisor on net zero-related projects for BEIS. He is a Chartered Psychologist and a member of the British Psychological Society Climate Crisis and Environment (CEC) Steering Group.
