Mehreen Gul (BEng PhD FHEA MCIBSE) is an Assistant Professor in Architectural Engineering in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Her key expertise is in solar radiation modelling, energy yield enhancement and characterisation of solar photovoltaics and stakeholder engagement to elicit insights, user behaviour and attitude towards energy conservation. Her awards include the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineering Napier Shaw Bronze Medal for best paper on an entirely new approach for estimating solar diffuse irradiance.
Mehreen was recently the recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment Fellowship (IF\192065) and the Energy Technology Partnership (ETP) studentship. This led her to develop the first Scottish state-of-the-art solar radiation monitoring station and bifacial solar module characterisation facility at Heriot-Watt funded by ETP and Wood Group. Mehreen is a guest editor for MDPI Energies journal Special Issues and has led three to successful completion on renewable/low carbon technologies and sustainable energy.
Mehreen is passionate about advancing female careers in higher education and she was the chair of EGIS Athena Swan (AS) committee from 2019 to 2021 and led a large team to consult and develop actions to improve gender equality, eventually leading a AS Bronze award for EGIS.
