Gavin Bridge is Professor of Economic Geography at Durham University and a Fellow of the Durham Energy Institute. His research is on the political economy of energy and natural resources. He is interested in the spatial and temporal dynamics of extractive industries – such as oil, gas and critical materials associated with low-carbon technologies – and the way geo-economic competition and climate change are reconfiguring global production networks and supply chains.
His current research focuses on networks, territory and transformation in the UK oil and gas sector, where he leads a UKRI-funded project that is using social science methods to understand trajectories, processes and consequences of change; and on the geopolitical economy of energy system transformation where he is contributing case study research on emerging global production networks underpinning the development of low-carbon energy technologies.
Gavin completed his undergraduate training at the University of Oxford, and gained his PhD at Clark University in Massachusetts.
