Dr. Weiqi Hua (Senior Member IEEE PES) is an Assistant Professor in Energy Systems at the University of Birmingham and Founding Lead of the Climate and Energy Informatics Lab (CEIL). Before joining Birmingham in 2023, he held research appointments at the University of Oxford and Cardiff University. He has secured more than £1.8 million in competitive research funding from Horizon Europe, UKRI/EPSRC, Innovate UK, the Royal Society, the British Academy, and UK government programmes.
Dr Hua has authored more than 60 scholarly publications and co-edited two books on digitalised and intelligent energy systems. His research has also informed evidence submitted to the UK Parliament and Ofgem. He was named among the Forbes 100 Most Influential Chinese in 2023. He serves on the editorial boards of Applied Energy, IET Smart Grid, and Oxford Open Energy equipping him for the role of Publications Chair.
